family love.

Jack Tait was on day two with his wife and daughter back in a shitty suburb north of Toronto where people go through the motions of living life and getting their entertainment from half assed actors and half assed musicians who lip synch.
His daughter, Taylor, had a basketball practice and Jack wanted to see her play.  He drove Taylor down Broadway (Orangeville NOT New York) and stopped in at Tim Horton’s for an average coffee with little caffeine.  He then made his way to Parkinson Public School where the practice was.
Jack and Taylor walked calmly into the old school and into the old gym.  a few fake “hi’s” to dull parents with no knowledge of sports but opinions as if they played professionally slowed them down but soon they were in the gym.  Jack sat down while Taylor ran onto the court.  she began shooting as she always did.  while other girls messed around, Taylor focused.  her focus never as big as when she stepped onto the court.  the one thing that consumed her.  two years of shit coaches and shit management would not deter Taylor from her goal of being the best basketball player in Canada.  two years of losing.  two years of a screaming 80 yr old maniac coach.  two years of dull parents with dull opinions would not deter her.  this brought a smile to Jack’s face.
the practice lasted two hours but it seemed like three days.  dull drills by dull coaches with no excitement and no fire and lacking the skills necessary to inspire and motivate always seemed to bother Jack.  he never understood why someone would volunteer to coach if they had no skills nor any desire to motivate and inspire.  was it an ego thing?  was it an avoiding going home thing?  the wrong people always in charge.  it reminded Jack of all of his average teachers and average bosses.  a world filled with average people but the average people making money doing average and irrelevant things while real artists starve on the street while trying to bring humanity to the world.
“I HATE IRRELEVANT PEOPLE WHO DO IRRELEVANT THINGS BUT GET PAID AS IF THEY ARE RELEVANT.  I ALSO HATE PEOPLE WHO FOLLOW THE RULES THAT ARE DUMB BUT FOLLOW THEM WITH PRIDE AND A SMILE!!!”
the practice soon ended and Jack and Taylor began to walk out.  as they were about to leave the managers of the team stopped them to give them some money for their fundraising efforts months before.  a dull bottle drive, of course.
while giving the money the two managers, with smirky smiles, told Jack that he missed a great season.
“The girls are sooo happy as they won bronze but really should have won gold.  such a positive season and the girls really improved over the year.”
“From what Taylor has told me, the girls have lost forty games over two years and won only six.  sounds like a terrible two seasons.  how have they improved?”
“well we play in a really tough league during the year against much better teams and we lose every game but they learn so much and when they play in the Provincials we get to go against all of the easy teams because we have lost all year.  I know the girls love winning the bronze medal.  always a successful end to the year.”
“so you’re telling me that you think it is good that they lose all year because then they play crappy teams in the Provincials and barely win a bronze?”
“yes…the girls love it!!!”
“YOU ARE A DUMB FUCKING CUNT…sorry for my language Taylor, AND YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A DUMB CUNT WHO KNOWS FUCKING SQUAT ABOUT SPORTS AND KNOWS SQUAT ABOUT HUMAN GROWTH AND HUMAN POTENTIAL SO WHY NOT GO BACK TO YOUR HOUSE AND OPEN THE GARAGE DOOR AND DRINK SOME FUCKING COORS LIGHT!!!”
the managers still had that stupid smirk on their stupid faces as Jack walked camly out the front doors of the shitty school with his beautiful daughter.  they jumped in their car and drove home.
“what was that all about Dad?”
“lowest common denominator everywhere Taylor.  never settle in life.  never settle.  most people settle for shit jobs.  shit spouses.  shit houses.  shitty vacations.  shitty towns.  shitty rules.  shitty teachers.  shitty coaches.  and shitty lives.  they settle so much for so long that they don’t even realize how much they have settled.  DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM TAYLOR.  NEVER LISTEN TO THEM.  YOU CAN SEE THE DULLNESS BEHIND THE FORCED FAKE SMILES AND FAKE CONVERSATIONS BUT DON”T BELIEVE THE SHIT THAT COMES OUT OF THEIR MOUTH’S.  THEY ARE ALL SAD AND DEPRESSED.  sad and depressed.”
Jack Tait and Taylor arrived at home and walked inside.  Jack turned on the shower for Taylor and opened a beer.
“how was practice Jack?”  asked Sarah.
“dull and uninspiring.”
“yup.”
They hugged each other and then Taylor came running down for a hug as well.
family love is all that is needed.  family love.
