i love my friends.

morning pages. again. meditation. again. blurry head. tired eyes. beautiful music. beautiful world. beautiful people. LOVE. LOSS IS STILL REAL. tragic loss is tough. does anyone ever recover from losing a loved one? does anyone ever recover from losing a child to brutal rape, torture, and murder? what about losing a child to an abduction and never getting closure? never finding your lost child. your lost love. your everything. how sad.

my right hand gets tired so quickly from writing with a pen but i prefer writing than typing. i prefer talking to writing and typing. getting older. LOVE MORE. listen more. love myself more. passions. beautiful music. random thoughts that are never random.

overpaid bureaucrats with big bellies and big fake smiles.

still have a cold. why is it taking so long to leave? i hate being stuffed up and i hate having low energy. went to the Keg for dinner last night and, as always, it was good. but, this time, it was expensive. everything is getting so expensive. wages stagnant. jobs everywhere. shitty jobs with shitty pay. jobs that will leave you in debt and leave you depressed. gas prices rising. rising cost of living and rising debt. i am not an economist so i don’t know the solution but there must be one. the experts must know a way to keep gas prices at a reasonable rate. keep food prices at a reasonable rate. keep house prices at a reasonable rate.

WHERE ARE THE EXPERTS???

ARE THEY HIDING???

ARE THEY HIDING AND LAUGHING???

the rich getting richer.

the poor getting poorer.

overpaid bureaucrats with big bellies and big fake smiles. why do we vote these fools in? how can we get these fools out? why do we accept such poor leadership? poor results? poor skills and poor transparency?

the wrong people leading us. the wrong people in power. the wrong people making the most money. money finding more money. money hanging with other money. rich hanging with rich. connecting and rising. poor connecting and falling. working harder and struggling more. keep fighting. keep up the good fight.

DON’T STOP BELIEVING.

I DON’T NEED MEDS.

tough run yesterday. still fighting a cold and still stuffed up. i felt dizzy and almost felt like i was going to collapse. after a few kilometres i settled in and it was much easier. many friendly faces. many friendly dogs. pretty girls and big families enjoying the sun. still coughing. still snorting snot out of my nose. finished my run and came home. i would have gone straight to the liquor store but i left my wallet at home and, therefore, had to go home to get it. i didn’t want murphy to see me so i asked sarah to bring my wallet out to me.

“can you bring my wallet out to the car as i don’t want murphy to see me/”

“why do you need your wallet?”

“i want to get a few beers and a few other things.”

SILENCE.

JUDGEMENT.

“okay text me when you are here.”

i text her and she comes out with the wallet. i feel the judgement but i am trying to let go of judgements and to not worry about what other’s think. everyone trying to be “perfect” in society’s eyes and in trying to do so DO NOT ENJOY THEIR LIVES.

struggling financially.

struggling spiritually.

struggling emotionally.

i’ve tried much too long and much too hard to be “perfect” in “their eyes” and it has gotten me nowhere. living in a shitty town. in a shitty house. no money. no enjoyment….except booze…and no future.

i get my beers and a big bottle of wine and come home and eat. taylor goes out with friends (she didn’t say BYE) and sarah cleans the house. i sit outside drinking wine and learning lines. always learning lines. always drinking. the less pills i take the better my memory is and the more accessible my emotions are. continue to scale down. “I DON’T NEED MEDS!!!”

two hours later i am inside and falling in and out of sleep on the couch. drinking too much. too many meds. still sick. why can’t i relax? i need to relax and sit still but i can’t. my idea of relaxing is running 10k or riding 40k. i do not need others to judge me as i judge myself harshly enough as it is.

i wake up in the morning and have the last of the coffee beans.

i want to run.

i want to go to the gym.

i want to meet a buddy for a coffee.

i want money but i don’t want to work today.

i don’t want to dig holes and carry heavy bricks.

I NEED MONEY.

I NEED MONEY.

I NEED MONEY.

should i text my boss to see if there is work?

i will wait until i finish my audition.

I HATE AUDITIONS.

this time i will make it to the bathroom.

my cold still in full effect. stuffy nose. hacking cough. low energy. the cold telling me that i need to slow down a little but i cannot slow down at all. time is too precious. after years of wasting my life away on booze and drugs and shitty jobs and shitty psychiatrists i am trying to make up for lost time. my nose running and still bugging me. murphy beside me of course. murphy always beside me unless i leave the house. and i hate leaving the house and looking at his sad, lonely, puppy dog eyes as i leave.

i worked at the Goodhawk last night and, although still sick, i had a great time. my buddy asked me to help out as their dishwasher had broken down so i came in to save the day. i remember being a dishwasher over forty years ago at a few different restaurants and hated it. i never have enough confidence to go for the better jobs. the better positions. the better pay. the better life. not sure why. the psychiatrists don’t know why either.

so i’m back dishwashing and can feel the energy and the excitement out on the main floor. great vibe. great music. great restaurant. great food. great people. i was boiling hot and sweating. dripping. runny nose. i needed to blow my nose and because i have never learned how to blow my nose into a tissue i leave my dishwashing station to run out to the bathroom that the patrons use. no bathroom in the kitchen. while running out to the bathroom i pass the small bar and see a beautiful family of four sitting, laughing, smiling, talking, drinking.

“hi.”

‘hi.”

“you must be Jack. Sarah has told me all about you.”

“yes. hi”

we all introduce ourselves. all smiling. all engaging.

we discuss the flower shop where sarah works. we discuss the restaurant. discuss suzanne.

i tell them that I am helping out and helping with the dishes tonight but will be bartending soon.

“what do you do outside of here?”

“i went to theatre school. i’m an actor.”

“oh that’s great. where can we see your work? what have you been on?”

“i was just in LA shooting a tv show.”

“what show?”

“a new show called Strangers. it won’t be out until next year.”

“where will we see it?”

“it’ll be on netflix.”

totally lying. i am sure nobody will ever see it but people always ask the same questions.

‘what are you on? where can we see you?”

i hate explaining the truth about acting and the biz and the utter bullshit of the industry so I tell quick lies with a quick smile and we quickly move on.

what a shitty industry filled with dull snakes and heartless pylons.

“oh but i did have a great scene with burt reynold’s before he died. it was his last movie and i played his lawyer.”

“ohhh…that’s great. amazing. i never really thought he was a great actor but he’s an icon.”

“yeah for sure. he took on some bad movies and then posed for playboy or playgirl.”

“yeah that’s right.”

“well i better get back to my duties. hahaha. great meeting you and have a fantastic dinner.”

and with that I walked back to my dishwashing station. i never did make it to the bathroom and my nose was still running. always getting sidetracked. always engaged. great little chat. great energy. rich people with rich lives. wealth passing down their wealth to their kids who then pass it down to their kids. rich staying rich. poor staying poor. middle class staying middle class. middle class desperately working to get rich and usually ending up the same. more haggard. more tired. more angry. more frustrated. more lonely. more lost. more dull.

“LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT.”

such dull statements by old dull people.

i’m hot and i am sick.

runny nose.

this time i will make it to the bathroom.

human beings are everywhere.

finally succumbed to the cold that Triggy had all last week. sore throat. stuffy nose. runny nose. tried, valiantly, to beat it but, no matter what i do or what i did to avoid the cold, i always catch the cold or flu or covid or whatever ailment Triggy and Rylee have. whatever they get. there is no avoiding it even when i avoid them. such is life. such is life of a family. murphy staring at me and, already, driving me crazy and it is only 8am. such is life of a family. a family living in a shitty suburb and doing the shitty family suburban life thing.

yesterday i worked with two young kids from mexico who hardly spoke english. but i loved it. loved them. such positive and driven young kids. we communicated as best as we could and it was better communication and better talks than i have with most canadians. leaving their families back home, they both came here for the summer to work hard and make money and then will go back home for the winter. they worked hard. wanted to please the boss. were always smiling. just two young kids happy to be living and happy to be making money. i love meeting people from all over the world. we all want the same things in life. we want to be happy. we want to connect. we are curious. we want love and want to love. we want to have fun and we don’t want to die or get raped or get bullied. i need to travel the world and connect with more people. eat their food and sleep in their beds. sort of like an Anthony Bourdain tv special. what a great way to travel the world and see other countries and connect with other people. i need to find a way to do this. i love people. i love positive people. i love seeing smiling faces and i love speaking, talking, communicating with others who don’t speak english. it makes you connect more fully. listen more fully. be attentive. be present. connect. love listen.

be curious.

be human.

love over hate.

listen over talking loudly and talking confidently while lacking knowledge and lacking tact. lacking love. lacking empathy.

human beings.

be human.

be.
